Power to End Stroke by American Heart Association
May

Power to End Stroke by American Heart Association

Power to End Stroke is campaign created to educate Black and Brown men and women, ages 25-64, about the serious impact of stroke and stroke risk factors, like high blood pressure and diabetes on members of the Black and Brown communities. AHA aims to increase awareness of stroke within the US, particularly in the African American community and challenges individuals to know their risk for heart disease and stroke and to take action to live a healthier lifestyle.

Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States and is a medical emergency that can happen to anyone, at any age and at any time. However, up to 80% of strokes may be prevented by understanding the signs and risk factors that lead to a stroke.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and the American Heart Association holds different events throughout the month to educate as many people as possible about Stroke. Some of those educational components are the following:

A free informative presentation open to the community featuring a bilingual doctor available to answer frequently asked questions about stroke and heart disease. This will be an educational event designed to raise awareness of stroke risks among Northeast Ohio’s African and Hispanic communities.
